Wednesdays and Sundays all summer long, and on Friday, July 10, as part of our Free Fun Friday celebration
Danforth Art Museum\School presents two annual juried exhibitions—Off the Wall and Community of Artists—highly anticipated shows featuring some of the top artistic talent in New England. Because these incredible exhibitions include work by both emerging talent and renowned established artists, they draw wide-spread attention from art critics, gallerists, and art collectors, and provide exposure for artists in all media for curatorial consideration for future exhibitions at Danforth Art and beyond. Katherine French, Guest Juror for Off the Wall, and Jessica Roscio, Juror for Community of Artists, faced a formidable pool of excellent works by nearly 500 regional artists.
“The wide range of materials, and the innovative use of alternative processes, was particularly intriguing and made decisions very difficult," says Jessica Roscio. "It is wonderful to see what is being produced in New England, and I am really looking forward to having these works on view this summer.”
Each year Danforth Art chooses an outstanding curator who makes selections for the show that align with his or her curatorial vision. The 2015 Guest Juror is Katherine French, Director Emerita of Danforth Art and current Gallery Director of Catamount Arts in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. A past Juror for the larger survey exhibition Community of Artists, French has been a strong champion for local artists. One hundred works by eighty-seven artists were selected for this exhibition, representing a variety of media and styles including sculpture, painting, and photography.
Prizes, selected by Guest Juror Katherine French, were awarded as follows:
Community of Artists provides a broad overview of methods and materials, a snapshot of the breadth and diversity of new work created in the region. Danforth Art Curator Jessica Roscio served as 2015 Juror for Community of Artists, selecting works for the exhibition after selections were made for Off the Wall. One hundred thirty works by one hundred twenty artists were selected for the exhibition.
