Danforth Art is participating in the 5th annual Free Fun Fridays program sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation. On Friday, July 19th, 2013, Danforth Art will open its doors, from 10am to 5pm, at no cost to visitors and offer a wide variety of free art activities for children and adults.
Inside the Museum’s galleries, take on the role of Art Detective as you uncover clues and solve mysteries related to artworks’ mediums using our self-guided activity book. Then join us in the Auditorium to add on to our collaborative sculpture made of found and recycled objects.
Outside participate in three unique art activities for all ages, inspired by specific pieces from current exhibitions. The art activities will be:
Multi-layered Masterpieces A painting project that also uses elements of collage, participants will work will white paint and white lace to create a multi-layered masterpiece, when held close to a wall this collage creates another unique piece of art using just shadows.
Drawing in Stitches Learn about mark making with both pencil and thread, and learn basic embroidery stitches to create a funky design on fabric.
Stamp, Print, Chop! Design and carve your own stamp signature (known as a “chop”), and print your stamp on your own paper, and on a large collaborative artwork to be displayed in the Danforth Art School!
Free Fun Fridays is a program that includes 60 museums and cultural venues across Massachusetts. Each Friday this summer, there will be six venues open for free.The program begins Friday, June 28th and runs through Friday, August 30th.
